The main character 'Kif returns from a deserved vacation in Spain, after events within the first book. Kif had removed his SIM card, leaving communications behind so as not to be bothered. Replacing the SIM and turning on his phone, he's immediately called into his workplace, and book 2's adventures begin -- a "game changing" quest begun in the first book, and a new and far more challenging job.This book continues and builds upon the fantasy, both within the game and real life. Within the game, he continues his journey to the East, finding challenge, adventure, and a disturbing experience. In real life, a new job, staff, and girlfriend. Events in the game and real life come together at the end, and 'Kif finds that actions do have real and sometimes frightening consequences.This book is better written than the first, with smoother transitions from the game to real life. At times it felt like there were continuity problems -- time spent within the game and in real life didn't seem to be consistent. It helped that the author was somewhat vague, time-wise...Game mechanics were a bit light for my personal taste -- gaining experience seemed limited to quests at times, and the reader generally had little idea of 'Kif's character build (stats were only occasionally shown). Level appropriate equipment rather than personal attributes are the primary source of character strengths.By the end of the book, the reader begins to realize that life also has its "mechanism", with rewards and very real punishments.A nicely constructed book that shows improvement in writing style, plot construction, transitions, and is moving from a somewhat linear to more complex story line.Recommended...
